BRIDGE JOINTING - LYMINSTER

Great to be involved on a bridge jointing project in Lyminster.This project was delivered under the provisions of Breheny Civil Engineering , with leadership from Miguel Rafael Pecurul Alonso overseeing delivery.

The works included..* Expansion joints using Fosroc Thioflex 600 hand grade joint sealant, resourced by our close supplier EPMS Supplies .* Surface saw cutting and sealing, completed using Craftco N1 sealant, ensuring a durable, high-quality and level finish to specification.

This structure needed both Fosroc Thioflex 600 and Craftco N1, and that is not belt and braces. They are doing different jobs on different joints.

The expansion joints took Thioflex 600 in hand grade. A bridge expansion joint accommodates real, seasonal movement in a structure that is not going to be closed again soon, so it wants a polysulfide with the extension range to follow that movement and the chemical resistance to survive road runoff. Hand grade rather than pouring grade because the joints are not all horizontal and a pouring grade will not stay where it is put on a vertical or upstand face.

The surface saw cutting and sealing took Craftco N1, a hot applied bituminous sealant. Surface joints in the carriageway see traffic directly and less movement, so the requirement is a durable, level, trafficable finish rather than maximum extension. Level matters more than it sounds: a proud seal on a bridge deck is a bump under every wheel and will be ploughed out within a season.

Delivered under Breheny Civil Engineering, with Miguel Rafael Pecurul Alonso overseeing delivery, and the sealant resourced through EPMS Supplies. On our side, Jon Zimmermann and Daniel Payne carried out the Thioflex 600 works, Jake Dallas the N1 bituminous sealing and Jordan Shepherd the saw cutting. Lyminster is a West Sussex village, and the original page for this job carried the spelling "Lymnister", which is why a redirect still catches that address. This is joint sealing in our highway sector.
