Shepherd and Sons is a specialist surfacing contractor rather than a general civils firm. We do a narrow set of things on hard surfaces, and we own the plant to do them. These are the ten.

Concrete cutting covers full depth sawing, floor sawing and bay removal on airfields, highways, ports and industrial slabs. Diamond drilling and core drilling produce accurate holes and extracted cores from 10mm to over 500mm, vertically, horizontally or at an angle, with our own water, power and access.

Joint sealing is the core of the business, hot and cold applied, with the grade matched to the calculated movement at each joint rather than chosen once for the whole pavement. Crack chasing is the preparation stage that makes a seal last, routing and cleaning a crack before it is filled. Overbanding closes the operation, applied hot over the treated crack or joint. Silicone sealing covers the internal and building side of the same discipline.

Surface repairs deals with concrete and asphalt that has gone past sealing, using structural repair systems where a bay has become unstable. Line marking applies thermoplastic, epoxy and MMA to runways, taxiways, roads and car parks. Anti skid is high friction surfacing for junctions, bus lanes and approach zones.

Airfield ground lighting covers AGL pit installation, coring, ducting and cable chases at UK airports, delivered airside and out of hours. It is the service that draws most directly on our aviation background.

We are based at Little Westerhill Farm near Maidstone in Kent. Kent, London, Sussex, Essex and the wider South East are covered from our own yard, and longer programmes are mobilised UK wide. The same ten services are delivered across four sectors: aviation, highway, ports and the public sector.
