Surfacing Contractors in Essex

Essex sits across the Thames from us. We work from Little Westerhill Farm on Westerhill Road in Linton, a few minutes south of Maidstone. That is where the plant lives and where a crew starts the day. The county is reached over the Dartford Crossing, and anyone who works both banks plans around that crossing rather than hoping.

Essex work is concentrated where the county meets the water. London Gateway and the Port of Tilbury both sit on the Essex bank, and since November 2021 both have been tax sites within Thames Freeport alongside Ford's Dagenham engine plant. That designation has pulled sustained terminal, warehouse and service infrastructure investment into the corridor along the A13, and new build on reclaimed estuary ground means slabs, ducts, plinths and fixings.

The two ports are different jobs. London Gateway is a modern deep-water container terminal handling close to two million TEU a year, laid out for straddle carriers and rubber-tyred gantries, which means long uninterrupted runs of heavily loaded pavement and buried service routes that have to be found before a barrel touches them. Tilbury moves around 16 million tonnes a year across a far wider cargo mix, so within one estate the surfaces run from grain and paper handling floors to roll-on roll-off ramps.

London Stansted is the county's aviation driver, on the Essex and Hertfordshire border. Airside work there follows the same discipline as any live airfield: escorted access, a permit for every penetration, foreign object debris control strict enough to treat a single core plug as a hazard, and the pavement handed back serviceable before the first movement. The M25, M11, A12, A13 and A127 all sit within mobilisation range across the crossing. The A12 in particular carries the county's north-east traffic on a corridor of ageing concrete and bridge structures where coring for investigation, strengthening fixings and drainage is routine night-closure work. The Lower Thames Crossing lands on the Essex side near East Tilbury and is under construction now, which will generate structures and highway work on the A13 and A1089 approaches for years.
