Ultra-Band

Ultra-Band is a premium hot applied overbanding system from Walker Sealants. It is a different formulation to the OBS grades rather than a variant of them, built on a polymer modified resin coated graded aggregate. It offers all the core benefits of traditional hot applied overbanding (waterproofing, crack sealing and surface life extension), with improved performance from a modern material formulation.

Ultra-Band is increasingly specified by highways contractors and local authorities for road and pavement maintenance, particularly where a certified system is called for.

On adopted highway in England an overband must meet clause S6.8.8 of the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways. It has to be between 3mm and 40mm wide and no more than 3mm proud of the surface, the system must hold a current Product Acceptance Scheme certificate, and it must reach an initial skid resistance of at least 55 SRV. Trunk roads ask for 60 SRV and a HAPAS certificate or equivalent.

Certificates are held by manufacturers, not contractors, so the useful questions are which system is being laid and whether the crew laying it is approved by the certificate holder. Those are two separate checks, and a certified system laid by an unapproved crew sits outside its certificate.
